Today we have made available the anthology from the national pilot (454 schools) which describes the experiences of a selection of the schools involved. The anthology is a collection of case studies and lessons learned from the pilot, and details the significant impact of the framework on the schools.
This anthology of pilot school case studies presents examples of good practice across the three key areas of aspiration, access and achievement. Section 1 addresses children’s aspiration and, through various examples of practice, highlights the centrality of teacher expectations in learner achievement. A child’s mind-set has a big influence on his/her wish to access school and the opportunities it offers. This section considers how Achievement for All has impacted on children’s aspirations, through the development of positive attitudes, increased confidence and motivation. The importance of school, teacher and parental aspiration is a strong theme.
Section two addresses access and considers how Achievement for All has helped pupils to break down many of the barriers which prevent them from learning. It addresses key areas across the school on which the impact of Achievement for All has led to improved pupil enjoyment, aspiration and attainment. These include behaviour, participation in wider school life, the development of positive relationships with others, parental engagement and attendance.
Achievement is addressed in section three through a consideration of key school actions. The section highlights the positive impact of Achievement for All on schools’ use of data to challenge underachievement. Key areas considered within the section include assessing and tracking pupil progress, setting challenging targets and overcoming barriers to learning, with a particular focus on language, sensory and physical barriers and specific issues within literacy and numeracy.
