Harnessing digital technology to improve learning for all

Interactive professional development sessions

BETT 11-14th January 2012

The increasing use of digital and mobile technology in the classroom and the wider learning environment offers education professionals an expanding range of options to extend and improve learning for all students, and could offer particular advantages for those identified with SEND.

In partnership with the MirandaNet Fellowship and students from the University of Bedfordshire, Achievement for All will be hosting twice daily interactive workshops at BETT to develop and share effective digital practices aimed at raising achievement within this target group.

Among the topics to be discussed and debated are: integrating mobile technologies into the classroom; using digital solutions for at-risk learners; and using social networking to enhance learning communities for teachers and students.

Professor Sonia Blandford, National Director of Achievement for All together with leading education practitioners from the programme team will open each session and will be joined by experts from the classroom and key professional organisations from the sector.

Resources will be developed during each workshop and the outcomes will be used to create a web-based Professional Knowledge Hub.  All contributors will be eligible for a certificate of participation in a professional development event and access to the resources collected over the four days.

Workshops will take place each day at 12.00 and 15.30 (11.00 and 14.00 on Saturday 14th) in Gallery Room 1, Grand Hall Gallery.

Achievement for All is a tailored school improvement framework, delivered in partnership with leaders, teachers, parents, pupils and support professionals, and aims to raise the aspirations, access and achievement of pupils identified with SEND.  A two-year pilot has demonstrated unprecedented impact for pupils with SEND, who progressed faster on average than all pupils nationally in English and Maths. Achievement for All schools may wish to apply the framework to a wider range of vulnerable pupils in line with their whole-school improvement strategy.
