On 26 January 2012 the DfE published Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 exam results for all schools/colleges in England for 2011. This data and recently published evidence shows Achievement for All’s unprecedented impact on pupils with Special Educational Need and Disabilities (SEND).
In Achievement for All schools:
- Pupils with SEN are progressing faster than the national average for all pupils
- Greater likelihood of pupils improving at KS2 and KS4 – three quarters of Achievement for All schools saw an improvement in their KS4 results compared to two thirds of all schools.
- Fourfold improvement in relationships with parents, with Achievement for All schools reporting “excellent” relationships with parents increased from 12% to 48% in two years
- Value for money, with Achievement for All schools saving money through reduced absenteeism, behaviour problems and exclusions.
Professor Sonia Blandford, National Director of Achievement for All says:
“Too often in the past low expectations have been placed on students with SEN and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Schools have been able to deliver below average results for these children and the statistics have not given the necessary clarity. The evidence to date from Achievement for All demonstrates what can be achieved through taking a whole school focused approach. There is a critical link between providing senior level leadership alongside excellent teaching practice, challenging the expectations for children with special educational needs.”
